A police inspector, Abubakar Mohammed and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force have been killed after bandits attacked a police formation at Gwarin Ganuwa village in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The attack occurred on Sunday, while the security operatives were protecting the community. He added that the bandits overran the area during the attack but were repelled by the security personnel. “The attack occurred on July 13 at about 5:30 a.m. in Gwarin Ganuwa village, Tsafe Local Government Area, where a joint team of police operatives and the CJTF personnel under Operation Restore Peace was stationed to protect the community. “The bandits, who were heavily armed and in large numbers, stormed the village in an attempt to overrun the area. The security operatives, however, engaged them in a fierce gun battle and successfully repelled the attack. During the exchange of fire, a police officer identified as Inspector Abubakar Mohammed paid the supreme price,” he stated. “His service AK-47 rifle was also reportedly carted away by the assailants. Three members of the CJTF also lost their lives in the confrontation.” He further quoted the police that reinforcements had been deployed to the area to recover the stolen firearm and track down the fleeing bandits.
