Two people lost their lives while commuters were held to several hours of gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday, following two road crashes at different sections of the road. It was learnt that the first accident, which claimed two lives, happened at the Straight Gate section of the expressway at about 8 am. The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babtunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident. Adebiyi noted that an eyewitness account indicated that a Mazda bus that was travelling at top speed had run into a truck, leading to the death of the driver and another yet-to-be-identified male passenger. “The accident involved an unknown truck and a white Mazda bus with number plate NRK 38 XC. “According to an eyewitness, the driver was speeding excessively and hit the moving vehicle at the rear. “Two occupants, the Mazda driver and another male adult, died in the crash. The Iwo Road Union members took the body of the presumed dead driver, while the second presumed dead body was taken to the General Hospital Isara by the police,” Akinbiyi stated. Meanwhile, commuters returning to Lagos via the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday were caught in a severe traffic gridlock after a container-laden trailer fell near the Otedola Bridge section of the expressway.
