At least 18 students of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, narrowly escaped death on Wednesday morning when the commercial bus they were travelling in suddenly caught fire while in motion. The students, who were en route from Ilorin to attend lectures in Malete, were in an 18-seater vehicle with registration number XUF 134 ZD. The incident occurred around 7:54 a.m. along Shao Road, near the Sobi Army Barracks. According to officials, the bus was completely destroyed by the blaze, but no lives were lost. The Kwara State Fire Service responded swiftly to the emergency and extinguished the fire, ensuring all passengers were safely evacuated. Confirming the incident, the Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, said in a statement that the service’s quick response played a crucial role in preventing fatalities.
