A senior police officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Clement Yunana, has reportedly died after being hit by a vehicle in a tragic hit-and-run incident along Bauchi Road in the Tumfure area of Akko Local Government Area, Gombe State. The incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 5:00 p.m. near the Matrix Fueling Station. ASP Yunana was reportedly attempting to cross the road when an unidentified vehicle struck him and sped off. The 50-year-old officer was attached to the Railway Police Outstation in Bajoga, Funakaye Local Government Area. Police personnel who were present at the scene quickly rushed him to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he was placed on emergency treatment, the report said. However, he was confirmed dead around 6:50 p.m. the same day. His remains have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy. According to the report, police authorities said efforts are underway to track down and arrest the driver responsible for the fatal accident. It added that the police also appealed to the public for information that may aid in identifying the vehicle involved in the fatal incident.
