A PETROLEUM tanker carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), yesterday, crashed in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, just a few days after a similar incident. Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed that the accident happened due to a mechanical fault. Akinwande said that the truck had been removed from the road and normal vehicular movement had resumed. He stated: “Upon arriving at the accident scene, we found a Howo trailer tanker with registration number BAU 586ZE loaded with 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) swerving across the road, causing its contents to spill out. We immediately took action by blanketing the area with a foam chemical compound to neutralise the flammability of the spilled content and prevent any potential fires. “The truck has been cleared off the road and normal vehicular movement is going on the road. The accident was due to mechanical fault from the engine compartment.”
