A Department of State Services (DSS) operative attached to the Chief Medical Director of FUTO, Imo State, was shot dead by gunmen along the Okigwe-Umuna highway. The assailants also injured three police officers escorting the CMD’s convoy, forcing them to flee into nearby bushes after their vehicle was riddled with bullets and later set ablaze. The family of Dr. Kingsley Achigbu narrowly escaped death, while one of the wounded officers underwent emergency surgery. All security personnel escaped with their rifles, and the driver, earlier missing, later rejoined the group. No official statements had been issued at press time.
