A mother and five of her children were killed when their home collapsed during a torrential downpour in Dankama Local Government Area of Katsina State. The tragic incident occurred around 2am on Tuesday while the family was asleep. The victims were identified as 45-year-old Mariya Sani and her children: Mujahid (20), Zahariya (18), Hauwa (15), Amira, and Nura Sani, aged five. Muhammad Sani, the bereaved husband and father of the deceased, confirmed the incident in an emotional statement on Tuesday in Katsina, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). “This affected about 10 people, but sadly, six didn’t survive. Three are currently receiving treatment in the hospital,” Sani reportedly said, noting that he was away from home at the time of the collapse and was devastated by the news. The incident has thrown the Dankama community into mourning, with neighbours and sympathizers flocking to the family’s residence to offer condolences and support. Sani expressed his grief and acceptance of the tragedy, saying, “I surrender to Allah’s will. May He grant them eternal rest.” The Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hajiya Binta Dangani, also confirmed the disaster to the NAN. Dangani stated that emergency officials had been dispatched to condole the bereaved family and assess the extent of the damage for appropriate intervention.
