The life of a 26-year-old mother of three was snuffed out in Linden last evening at the hands of her abusive ex-boyfriend. The dead woman, Jenel Pollydore, was at a wedding reception in Amelia’s Ward, Linden when she was shot twice by the the 21-year-old ex-boyfriend who is the father of her four month old baby. She collapsed and died in the compound of the hotel where the reception was being held. Her assailant, Shaka Phillips, left the scene and has been on the run since the incident late on Saturday night. According to a Police report, Pollydore had just stepped out of the reception and was standing at the gate of the hotel’s compound where she was confronted by the ex-boyfriend over her not answering his calls. Eyewitnesses said the man whipped out a gun and fired a shot at Pollydore, initially hitting her to the neck. The woman turned around and ran into the hotel’s compound, but was chased down by the ex-boyfriend, who fired another shot which hit her in the back. She collapsed and died in the hotel’s yard as the assailant escaped on a motorcycle. Friends of the dead woman said she ended the relationship with the father of her youngest child a few weeks ago and obtained a restraining order against him. She complained that he would still show up at home late at nights and at her workplace, ignoring the restraining order. She had confided in friends that she took a decision to end the relationship and asked him to leave her family’s home weeks ago, as she became tired of his abuse and almost daily arguments. Her family members were supportive of her decision to end the relationship. In a statement this morning, the Police confirmed that the 26-year-old was shot twice. A post mortem examination is to be performed on her body. The Police also reported that two 9mm spent shells were recovered from the scene. The search is underway in Linden for the suspect.
