Eight days after their abduction, a Katsina State-based businessman, Anas Ahmadu, his seven-month pregnant wife, Halimatu, and their two-year-old daughter remain in captivity. Halimatu is the daughter of Alhaji Usman Turare, a well-known independent petroleum marketer in Katsina. "Her husband is a young businessman, but I don’t think he was the target. They probably came for her father, who is wealthy,” a source close to the family told Daily Trust. The attackers were said to have scaled the fence of the residence and killed a vigilante member, Abdullahi Muhammad, who had responded to a distress call from the family. Quoting family sources, it was noted "that the couple and their child are still being held by the assailants, who initially demanded N600million ransom but later reduced it to N100 million." "We are praying to Allah (SWT) to soften the hearts of the abductors to release them. Where can we possibly raise such an amount?” a family source lamented. The parents of Anas also appealed to the Katsina State government to intervene and secure the release of their son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. “Their abduction has put us in a very difficult situation. I cannot eat or sleep since the unfortunate incident. I pray God to set them free,” Anas’ mother, Hajiya Zainab, said. "You know what it feels like for parents to have their children kidnapped. You cannot stop worrying about their lives and well-being. But as Muslims, we surrender everything to God,” the father added. On August 27, the Katsina State Police Command confirmed the kidnap case. According to the spokesman for the command, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abubakar Sadiq, the Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, visited the scene, deployed additional resources for the prompt rescue of victims, and arrest of perpetrators. The statement read, “Today, Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at about 0300 hrs, some suspected gunmen armed with weapons attacked the residence of one Anas Ahmadu, m, age 33, of Filin Canada Quarters, Katsina State, kidnapping him, his wife, and his daughter, one Jidda Anas. “Also, the hoodlums fatally shot one Abdullahi Muhammad, m, age 25, of the same address, a member of the local vigilante, and escaped the scene before the arrival of police operatives." "Upon receipt of the report, the DPO quickly rushed to the scene, restoring normalcy in the area as investigation commenced with a view to tracking and arresting the perpetrators of the dastardly act." “The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, Bello Shehu, in company with the command’s management team, Area Commander Metro, DPOs within the metro, as well as the command’s OC Anti-Kidnapping, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment of the scene. He then deployed additional personnel and assets to ensure the prompt rescue of the victims and arrest of the perpetrators." “Furthermore, the command calls on members of the public to at all times report suspicious and criminal activities to the nearest police station or make use of the command’s emergency line for prompt and decisive action against all forms of criminal activities." There have been heightened cases of insecurity rocking Katsina state, with kidnappings and bandit attacks. Many government promises have failed to stop the growing menace which has left many family hopeless.
