Residents of Kachia Local Government Area in Kaduna State have decried what they describe as the persistent neglect of their plight, as bandit attacks and kidnappings continue to ravage the area with little to no media attention. In a statement signed by Rev. Fr. Agbo Gabriel, the community said they feel abandoned despite enduring over two years without consistent electricity and mainly relying on solar power. They lamented that while insecurity worsens, their suffering is largely underreported. According to the statement, in the early hours of Sunday, September 7, 2025, gunmen attacked Wakeh village in Agunu District, killing eight people, injuring several others, and burning homes and property. Other communities such as Ankwa, Bishini, and Katari were also listed among areas repeatedly targeted by armed groups, leaving residents displaced, traumatised, and living in despair. The statement also appealed to Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, to urgently intervene in the insecurity plaguing the area. Residents urged the government to strengthen community-based surveillance, engage local leaders, and initiate collective strategies to secure vulnerable villages. Rev. Fr. Gabriel stressed that local vigilance is now a necessity, calling on residents to report suspicious activities and support one another in defending their communities. “The poor people of Kachia town, who used to host internally displaced persons from surrounding villages, are now themselves being targeted,” Rev. Fr. Gabriel said. “Kidnappings from farms and homes are happening daily, yet media coverage remains virtually absent. We are forced to ask: where are the correspondents or reporters of major media houses in Kaduna and Kachia? “Kachia is a land of great potential and does not deserve such neglect,” the statement concluded. “Media houses, we need your attention. Kachia too exists.”
