Suspected gunmen on Monday killed a Nigeria Customs Service officer at the Fingila checkpoint in Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State. According to eyewitnesses, about seven attackers armed with sophisticated weapons first stormed nearby farms where they harassed farmers, confiscated food items, and ordered them to leave their work behind. A resident, Malam Abdulrasheed, said the gunmen even forced farmers to taste their own food before consuming the rest. “They told the farmers there would be no farming that day and asked them to leave,” he said. The assailants later moved towards the main road, where they encountered the customs officer seated near a mosque. Witnesses recounted that after the first shot missed, the officer attempted to flee into a maize field but was struck by two bullets, one of them fatal. Two of his colleagues, who were hiding in the maize field during the attack, reportedly managed to escape with minor injuries after crawling through the crops.
