The Corentyne, Berbice village of Crabwood Creek was rocked by a murder-suicide case today involving a couple. 36-year-old vendor, Alisha Narine, was brutally chopped to death by her reputed husband, Ram Singh, who later took his own life. Police said the incident took place between 9:30 and 10 o’ clock this morning. A police report stated that Alisha Narine was in the backyard at her home on a video call with an overseas-based relative, when suddenly the reputed husband appeared behind the woman with a cutlass in his hands, telling the relative on the video call that he was going to murder the woman today. The relative said the call was disconnected and she immediately contacted the couple’s 18-year-old daughter. The daughter told investigators that she also received a call from her mother’s neighbours informing her that the father was assaulting the mother in the yard. The young woman said she rushed across to the house, but it was too late. She found her mother’s lifeless body lying in the backyard with chop wounds about it. The daughter immediately contacted the Police. Investigators arrived on the scene and located the suspect sitting at the side of a nearby trench. The man reportedly told investigators that he had taken a poisonous substance. He was rushed to the #75 Village Regional Hospital, where he passed away while being treated by doctors. The Police said post-mortem examinations will be conducted on both bodies later this week. The investigations are ongoing.
