Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have invaded Zhibi community, a settlement neighbouring Dei-Dei town in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) but located in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State, abducting a businessman and his two daughters. The victims, identified as Muhammad Shuaibu, a local trader, and his two daughters, including a 200-level university student, were taken away from their residence around 12 a.m. on Friday when the assailants stormed the area. Family sources who spoke said the gunmen gained access into the compound by breaking through the backyard door, after destroying the burglar-proof padlock. “They did the same thing in the room where the wife of the family head was sleeping,” a relative recounted. “She woke up suddenly to see them inside her room, so she quickly ran toward her husband’s room. They summoned all the family members to the sitting room, threatening to take all of them. But the wife knelt down and kept pleading with them to spare her baby. That made them spare her and the baby.” The source added that the attackers seized the mobile phones of the couple before demanding food items, which were reportedly not available in the house at the time. Residents told that the Zhibi community has only a handful of police officers. They also accused the nearby Dei-Dei Police Division in the FCT of refusing to intervene, insisting that the area falls under Niger State jurisdiction. As of Monday afternoon, family members said there had been no contact from the kidnappers, heightening fears for the safety of the victims. A senior police source in the area confirmed the abduction, saying efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators. Residents are now calling on both the Niger State Government and the FCT Administration to strengthen joint security operations in the area before the situation escalates further.
