A commercial driver identified as Yakubu Joshua, an indigene of Okene in Kogi State, has reportedly been killed by a soldier in Akunu Akoko, Ondo State. The incident occurred on October 10, 2025, when the soldier, whose name has not been disclosed, reportedly struck Joshua on the head with an AK-47 rifle, leading to his death. “He was murdered by a soldier on October 10, 2025, after a soldier used his AK-47 to hit him on the head at Akunu Akoko,” a family source said. “He is a driver for NURTW (National Union of Road Transport Workers) but was wrongly accused by a passenger who invited the soldier to assault him. The name of the soldier has been withheld.” Joshua, who worked with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), was said to have been wrongly accused by a passenger, who then called in the soldier to assault him. His remains have since been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owo, but the family has expressed concern over what they describe as an attempt by authorities to bury the deceased without conducting an autopsy, scheduled for October 16, 2025. The family of the deceased has appealed to the Nigerian Army and relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served and that the officer responsible for his death is held accountable. Joshua is survived by his wife and four children.
